Nepal as a holiday destination is plain fantastic. A kingdom steeped in history and dominated by the majestic Himalayas, it enthralls all who enter. One of the best ways to explore and discover this remarkable land is to get away from the towns and roads and embark on a trekking and rafting adventure – the snows of Kachenjunga feed this less known, but very spectacular tributary of the Sun Kosi, the Tamur River which offers amazing mountain views with an exhilarating river journey! The trek is one of the most spectacular in Nepal, with outstanding views of Kachenjunga, Makalu and Everest. Our amazing team of porters who help carry all our gear into the river is truly a sight to behold. This is an expedition with it all!
Watch in awe as Nepalese porters clad in flip flops carry 80kg rafts as we begin a spectacular journey to the river through Rhododendron Forests. Our trek takes us over a 10,000ft pass above the sacred lake at Gopa Pokhara rewarding us with stunning views of Kachengunga, Makalu and the majestic Mount Everest. We descend through terraced rice paddies and mountain villages which lead us to the river.
After a comprehensive safety talk we put on the river and take on some of the most challenging whitewater in Nepal. This river is a whitewater delight with one rapid leading into the next. Steep canyon walls enclose the river and the rapids are powerful and continuous, many of which are unnamed, perhaps your chance for some fame. As the river opens up we pass by small fishing villages and watch wild monkeys on the river banks. Overnight camp on a beautiful white sandy beach.
Layover day, and a chance to do exactly what you want. Whether you choose to relax and read or join in on a spot of volleyball or a swim, the choice is yours. And what a spectacular setting for it.
A relaxing day punctuated by some fun whitewater.
Some phenomenal whitewater action today as towering waves leap skyward, with seemingly endless rapids surging through steep canyon walls, to finally cascade into the Sun Kosi.
An early rise today with breakfast as we watch the sun rise over the hills. We leave the river at Chatra and make our way back to Kathmandu.
