Watch in awe as Nepalese porters clad in flip flops carry 80kg rafts as we begin a spectacular journey to the river through Rhododendron Forests. Our trek takes us over a 10,000ft pass above the sacred lake at Gopa Pokhara rewarding us with stunning views of Kachengunga, Makalu and the majestic Mount Everest. We descend through terraced rice paddies and mountain villages which lead us to the river.
After a comprehensive safety talk we put on the river and take on some of the most challenging whitewater in Nepal. This river is a whitewater delight with one rapid leading into the next. Steep canyon walls enclose the river and the rapids are powerful and continuous, many of which are unnamed, perhaps your chance for some fame. As the river opens up we pass by small fishing villages and watch wild monkeys on the river banks. Overnight camp on a beautiful white sandy beach.
Layover day, and a chance to do exactly what you want. Whether you choose to relax and read or join in on a spot of volleyball or a swim, the choice is yours. And what a spectacular setting for it.
A relaxing day punctuated by some fun whitewater.
Some phenomenal whitewater action today as towering waves leap skyward, with seemingly endless rapids surging through steep canyon walls, to finally cascade into the Sun Kosi.
An early rise today with breakfast as we watch the sun rise over the hills. We leave the river at Chatra and make our way back to Kathmandu.

The Tamur River Rafting trip typically lasts between 6 and 8 days, depending on the specific itinerary. The journey takes you through the river’s diverse rapids, as well as some calmer stretches of water, allowing you to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery. The trip also includes camping along the riverbanks or staying in local lodges, giving you an authentic wilderness experience. This multi-day expedition is an ideal option for those looking to combine thrilling rapids with immersion in the natural beauty of the region.
Tamur River Rafting is suitable for individuals who are in good physical condition and are looking for an adventurous rafting experience. While some rapids are more intense, the Tamur River provides an ideal challenge for those with some rafting experience or individuals in good health who are comfortable with moderate physical activity. The minimum age for participation is typically around 16 years old, though this may vary based on individual requirements. Even if you’re not an expert rafter, the experienced guides will provide a safety briefing and guidance to ensure you feel prepared and comfortable throughout the adventure.
For your Tamur River Rafting trip, it’s important to pack light, quick-drying clothing that will keep you comfortable both on and off the water. Recommended items include synthetic shirts, a swimsuit, and lightweight shorts. You should also bring water shoes or sandals that are appropriate for river conditions. A waterproof jacket or poncho is essential to protect against water splashes, and it’s advisable to bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses for sun protection. For overnight camping, pack a small overnight bag with necessary toiletries, warm clothing (it can get cool at night), and a towel. A camera in a waterproof case will help you capture the memories of this stunning adventure.
Yes, safety is a priority with Rapid Runner Expeditions. The company adheres to international safety standards and ensures that all participants are equipped with the best safety gear, including life jackets, helmets, and paddles. A professional guide leads the rafting expedition and ensures safety throughout the journey, providing a detailed safety briefing at the start. The guides are trained in both rafting techniques and emergency response procedures. Furthermore, a safety kayak follows the group to assist if necessary. The Tamur River is considered safe for rafting, but it’s important to listen to the guide’s instructions and be aware of the river’s conditions at all times.
The best time to go rafting on the Tamur River is during the dry season, typically from September to May. The river conditions are optimal for rafting during the pre-monsoon season (March to May) and post-monsoon season (September to November). During these months, the weather is usually dry and warm, making it perfect for outdoor adventure. The monsoon season (June to August) should be avoided due to high water levels, which can make the river dangerous for rafting. While winter months (December to February) are generally suitable, temperatures can be cooler, especially during the evenings and mornings by the river.
